Atiya Darbar and Afra Kochra, co-founders of Kiddiegram, tell you where you need to be this weekend, particular if you fancy eating out with your kids.
1. INDIGO DELI (Mumbai, Gurgaon, Pune)
This all-day cafe has been serving us since 2005 with their honest, fresh and delectable dishes, and they’ve recently introduced a kid’s menu! Offering a comfortable and friendly atmosphere, they now have an especially crafted menu curated for children. They’ve got items like ‘Buttered Octopus Franks’ (which is actually just frankfurters) and ‘Make your own sundae’, or ‘choose your own pasta’ options. They also readily provide you with a high chair, colouring sheets and crayons when asked- which is more than what other cafes in the country are willing to do. All in all it’s one of our favourite places to eat out with children, and their freshly baked cookies are a favourite with our family.
2. PIZZA EXPRESS (Mumbai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida)
This is another family favourite, as my son just can’t get enough of the dough balls at Pizza Express. Their wide varieties of salads are light and tasty, and the dads can find a new pizza they love every time from their countless options! More often than not we are greeted with balloons at the entrance—which is a highlight for my three year old, and their activity packs are always ready with colour pencils to solve the fun and challenging puzzles for all ages. One can expect quick and pleasant service, and something we love here is that the menu highlights nut content in the dishes, making it safe for kids with allergies and less worrisome for the parents. If that’s not enough their open kitchens welcome our children to watch or even help the chefs prepare pizzas from scratch. Defi nitely recommended for a family outing!
3. SMOKEHOUSE DELI (Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata)
This quaint and quirky cafe boasts of fun interiors- sure to perk up the kids once they walk in. They’ve got an all white space, with interesting doodles on the walls that tell many tales! The food options here are frequently updated with a recent Healthy menu addition keeping the mums happy. Your kids will go gaga over the children’s menu that is truly one of a kind. They’ve got an interactive menu booklet with stickers to place your orders and a page where you can design your own pizza or pastas! It consists of dishes like Popeye’s Sandwich and Peanut Butter Jelly Caterpillars. You can always find crayons and high chairs on standby. This place is a great example of a child-friendly area, coupled with delicious food.
4. JW MARRIOTT SUNDAY BRUNCH (Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru)
This brunch is a must try for families even if you have to splurge a bit. Having tried out their Mumbai Sahar JW Cafe brunch I must say the special themed spreads here are to die for, with Easter Brunch being our favourite. The impressive buffet with emphasis on desserts is every child’s dream come true and you’ve got the added bonus of an Easter egg hunt along with plenty more entertainment! They’ve even got a Mothers Day, Halloween theme, Christmas Brunch and many more! The main USP of this place is that every Sunday they have a dedicated small play area for the toddlers with appointed staff who keeps a watchful eye on them. If that doesn’t make you happy you’re greeted by clowns who do not tire from entertaining the kids all throughout! What more can you ask for?
So the next time you’re tempted to leave the kids at home we recommend you brave it! Going to a restaurant with the kids doesn’t have to be an ordeal. You never know you might be surprised. However, always be prepared, as you never know when you might have to deal with a public tantrum! Those come at the most unexpected of times. At times like these we just have one piece of advice…. let Daddy take over! | MB
